Go green & save money STAND BY Some appliances when left on standby consume almost as much energy as when you have turned them on. The Energy Saving Trust says the average household has up to 12 gadgets left on stand-by or charging at any one time and more then £740m of electricty is being wasted this way.

COOL WASH Wash your clothes at 40 degrees rather than 60 as this uses one third less energy.

TURN IT DOWN Turn your themostat down and reduce the room temperature by one degree cutting your heating bill ten percent. This could save you £40 per year. It is a good idea to fit thermostat radiator valves to most radiators.

A BRIGHT IDEA Installing energy saving light bulbs could save you a pound a month on your on annual energy bill. Energy efficient light bulbs use only a quarter of the electricity of normal bulbs and will last ten times longer. Always turn off the lights off when you leave a room.
