Over £5,500 raised for Cynthia Spencer Hospice

Cynthia-Spencer-Hospice77621bc3-d3d4-4826-94a3-cc3fd24475d2[1]Last Saturday 19th March we sponsored a Musical Variety Night at the Spinney Theatre in Northampton to raise funds for Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

The evening was held in honour of Jenny Starnes who passed away at the hospice. Her family wanted to say a big thank you and raise awareness for the wonderful work all the nurses do.

The evening was a tremendous success with an audience of more than 400 people. The show contained singing, dance and comedy magic with music from many West End shows. Members of the audience participated in “Dial a Diamond”; this where a call was made at random to a mobile phone and the person who answered won a sparkly item of jewellery.

Sue Bownass, Community Fundraiser said: “the Hospice is very quiet without Jen about! She was always chatting to someone and singing around the ward! I think if she could, she would have got up and done a little dance too! I had the privilege of working with Jenny many years ago and it was an honour to be asked to host Jenny’s Moments (my last event for the Hospice).

Yesterday we attended the hospice  for the cheque presentation in the sum of £5,437.40. This morning this has increased to £5,505.40 after further donations.

Budget Update – Stamp Duty

April1-400x310[1]Despite pleas and pressure from the residential property industry, the Stamp Duty surcharge that the Chancellor announced in December 2015 will definitely go ahead on 1st April 2016.

All second home purchases or buy-to-let property purchases will be subject to a 3% surcharge on top of the standard Stamp Duty.

The original announcement in December created a frenzy and scramble from Buy-To- Let buyers to find and purchase a second home before the surcharge is applied. Under current legislation the Stamp Duty on a £200,000 second home purchase is £1,500 and from 1st April £7,500. The influx of buyers from December to the end of February has led to a shortage of available property stock and consequently an increase in prices.

The property industry now waits for the fall out; will rents be increased to fund the surcharge, will prices re-adjust once more stock comes back to the market or will some landlords opt to sell up and leave the rental market, particularly with higher taxes for landlords being imposed next year.

The Chancellor has said the additional receipts from this will help to fund people getting onto the property ladder in the South West.

Charity Concert For Cynthia Spencer Hospice

77621bc3-d3d4-4826-94a3-cc3fd24475d2[1]We are helping to support and raise funds for Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Northampton, providers of palliative care for 40 years to approximately 400 in-patients each year.

My mother-in law spent the last weeks of her life in the hospice and received exception care so my wife vowed to raise funds to enable the same level of care to be offered to future patients.

This Saturday, 19th March 2016, we are sponsoring a Musical Variety Night called “Jenny’s Moments”, organised and Directed by my wife Lora. The show includes song, dance and magic performed by many accomplished entertainers who belong to local theatre and drama groups. Songs from Mama Mia, Sound of Music, Oliver, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables are included.

The evening is expected to be an upbeat occasion with something for every age group and as of today more than 400 tickets have been sold. It is hoped that a figure between £3,000 and £4,000 will be raised for the hospice.

If you wish to buy a ticket please contact our Wellingborough office on 01933 224400 or donations are welcome at
